Hi, my name is Dale Berkebile, and I am both an artist and an art instructor. I am really passionate about helping kids (and society at large) get more creative and appreciate the arts. I have been leading Paint Parties for adults and have done art camps for kids for a while now and decided I would like to add a fun art history class where I teach about famous artists, fun art styles, and offer a fun way to allow kids to do fun engaging art in an easy way so anyone can do it.

Short Sample Overview Video

Here’s a short video where I do a high-level overview of 3 day course on Picasso. Have a watch and get a small feel for what student will get in this my classes.

Kids Art Class Description

What Is It…

These classes are a fun, hands-on art class where young artists explore creativity through drawing, painting, and mixed media related to a specific artist. In the class we review who the artist is, a bit about their style of art, and photos of their work. Then we move into creating artist inspired art work.

Each class has a brief digital presentation each day and then we move to doing art in this style. We also do drawing pages and story time on different days – all related to the artist being covered. Each class is 3 or 4 days that can be one day in a row for art camps (3-4 days in a week) or 3-4 weekly classes for community centers, libraries, and other places to offer programming for kids. Classes are roughly 1 hour per session for 3-4 sessions (days).

#ArtHistory #VisualArts

Includes…

  • An original and fun digital storybook presentation designed to expose students to famous artworks and details about the specific artists
  • Artist-inspired coloring page(s)
  • A literacy connection when a class has a book story
  • A step-by-step studio art project guided with clear directions
  • Quick fun facts
  • A digital lesson review to help kids reenforce the fun learning
  • An art show for more community building and connections with guided questions to build engagement and ways to reflect on the art (this could include a parent art show on the last day)

Who's It For…

These classes are focused on Elementary School students and can be used for Homeschool communities, community centers, or other organizations looking for support in areas of Art and fun community building programming.

Why It's Great…

Encourages self-expression, builds confidence, and enhances fine motor skills. I offer step-by-step easy instructions to do the art but provide freedom for kids to be creative.

These classes are artist and art history focused and I make learning about the artist and their style of art fun which sometimes exposes kids to topics they may not learn in school and by getting the kids engaged and having fun.

This art class and education approach is awesome because it layers art history connections with guided instruction about the elements of art and principles of design. Each class ultimately results in one or more completed art project(s).
